Juknokwon is the most renowned bamboo forest in South Korea. Nestled in Damyang, the heartland of Classical Korean Poetry from the Joseon Dynasty, Juknokwon features a dense bamboo forest and a pavilion culture village.

Once you pass through the entrance, you'll find yourself enveloped in a serene world surrounded by towering bamboo. A leisurely stroll through this enchanting forest is remarkably calming and rejuvenating.

To enhance your visit, savor Jukro Tea, a premium tea made from dew collected from bamboo trees - one of the finest teas in the world. If tea isn't to your taste, you can also indulge in Bamboo-leaf ice cream for a refreshing treat!

Gwanbangjerim Forest (40min)

Gwanbangjerim is a unique manmade forest, originally planted in 1648 along the banks of Damyangcheon Stream to prevent flooding. Stretching for two kilometers, it resembles a riverbank trail more than a traditional forest. This site holds significant historical and cultural value, showcasing the ingenuity of Korean ancestors in disaster prevention.

Today, It is a popular destination where visitors can enjoy a pleasant stroll along its pathways, taking in the beautiful landscape and reflecting on its historical significance.

The Bamboo Craft Market was once a unique feature exclusive to Damyang, but its legacy continues through the museum. The exhibition halls now showcase a diverse collection of bamboo crafts amassed over the past 35 years. This includes everyday bamboo items, masterful bamboo creations, and award-winning pieces from the National Bamboo Craft Competition. Visitors can explore a wide array of bamboo artistry that highlights the rich tradition and innovation in this distinctive craft.

Samjinae Village is Asia's first village to receive the 'Slow City' designation as part of the global Cittaslow movement. This enchanting rural area features well-preserved traditional hanok houses, with centuries-old stone walls lining the village. The residents embrace a slow lifestyle, dedicated to maintaining their rich traditions and the serene pace of life.

Move to Soswaewon (11km, 20min)

Soswaewon Private Garden (40min)

Soswaewon Garden is one of Korea's most distinguished private gardens from the Joseon Dynasty. Its design masterfully highlights a crystal-clear stream that meanders through a valley, cascading over a small waterfall and into a serene pond. It  exemplifies traditional Korean aesthetics and harmonizes beautifully with its natural surroundings.

Visitors can experience the garden’s tranquil beauty from a pavilion, gaining insight into how it inspired Classical Korean Poetry. It was also a hub of intellectual activity, where Confucian scholars gathered to discuss philosophical matters and compose their works, reflecting its role as a center of scholarly thought.
